Unplanned Workouts

I hate workouts which are unplanned, in the sense of the structure you will be following. The plan you follow should be in alignment with a bigger, longer term program. Far too many people work out based on what they feel like doing on that specific day.
Let me explain why this is not the best way to train your body, if you are absolutely focused on the best results.
Without training structure you are not going to be forcing overload because ultimately, you don't even know where you are in relation to the previous workout on the same muscle group. You are just guessing which is never going to lead to the best results
It is very difficult to truly master a movement and develop a strong neurological connection within an area, with any given exercise, if you keep selecting your workouts based on pure instinct. You should have direction and structure because ultimately that will give you the focus to force key improvements in your performance!
From a mental perspective, if you don't have focus before the workout starts you can't perform at the highest level. When I go to the gym on leg day, I know exactly what I am going to be doing - if I let myself decide what to do for legs when I arrive, it is very likely I will take an easier option - but having a pre-determined plan keeps you focused.
Stop doing workouts which have no direction - you need consistency - this is where improvements are made, over time.
