People will spend lengthy amounts of time wondering how they should change their diet OR training plan, yet they don't consider how they interact together enough. The reality is by making changes to one it often means there needs to be changes made to the other. For instance, if an additional training day is added to your week then the dietary needs will probably need adjusting accordingly.
Today I want you to see how considering both your diet and training alongside one another is important.
Net Energy Expenditure
As your training programme changes so will your net energy requirements. For instance, by going from 3 workouts a week to 4 days a week, additional post-workout nutrition will need to be included straight away. Due to the overall impact of having less rest days during the week, it might mean other adjustments need to be made because you're burning more fuel. This will partially come down to what you're doing on the extra workouts along with what you do for work i.e. physical work versus desk work.
Recovery Needs
To lose weight and burn fat you must always recover first, that's one of the golden rules of weight loss. With that said, your nutrition needs to be adapted specifically to each day of the week. However, don't always presume that you only have extra calories on larger muscle group training days i.e. legs because in my opinion, the day after where you're trying to recover is potentially a great time to have higher carbs as well.
Cravings
Cravings will usually become more obvious when you've spent huge amounts of energy and endured immense levels of stress. Again, this is usually after an aggressive workout for example. With that said, using more calories on this day, especially after the workout can help control these cravings. If you don't, you will probably end up craving inferior junk food as your blood sugar levels drop and your central nervous system tries to recover.
These are just some considerations, there are many more!
